Copper, magnesium, manganese, potassium, vitamin E, vitamin C and bioflavonoids:

According to dozens of research findings, the main cause and the beginnings of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) occurs when small cracks start appearing in the walls of the arteries - a process known as elastic fibre breakdown. When this happens, the body tries to plug up these holes with a cholesterol/calcium complex known as “plak” or “plaque”.

Failure to do this will result in the eventual bursting of an artery and possible bleeding to death.

The problem is the arteries narrow over time and as more and more cracks continue to appear in the arterial walls, more plax is deposited until you get an eventual “sealing up” of the artery. A heart attack usually follows. We like to call this process “the bandaid effect” as it’s the same as having a cut on your skin that won’t stop bleeding, so you just keep on sticking more and more bandaids over the top of the old ones!

And what causes this elastic fibre breakdown in the first place? A lack of the essential nutrients that make up the health of the arterial walls (copper, magnesium, manganese, potassium, vitamin E, vitamin C and bioflavonoids).

Your First Tip to Lowering Your Cholesterol Naturally... You Must Take Supplements!!

So your #1 natural treatment for high cholesterol is to first start taking a good liquid colloidal mineral formula. This is the absolute best way to make sure you get a highly absorbable supply of copper, magnesium, potassium and manganese.

Remember this important fact… there are no longer enough nutrients left in our foods today (especially minerals) so you must supplement.

Potassium, in particular, (also known as “detergent for the arteries”) will help to clean and flush out the arteries so also drink plenty of raw, organic apple cider vinegar (or take the capsules) as ACV is rich in this important mineral.

For vitamin E, vitamin C and bioflavonoids, find a good multi vitamin that supply’s these key nutrients (along with vitamin B6, B12 and folate) and take a cereal grass such as wheat grass and barley grass juice/powder every day.

Vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and folic acid:

Thirty years of research into heart disease has uncovered another culprit responsible for atherosclerosis.

It’s an excess of the homocysteine amino acid.

Too much of this amino acid in your bloodstream will also contribute to the elastic fibre breakdown of the arterial walls. An article in the June 1996 issue of Medical Tribune News reiterates these findings by stating…

“High levels of homocysteine, a substance involved in protein production, are associated with artery thickening, a precursor to both stroke and heart disease”.1

And a 1992 Harvard Medical School study of 15 000 physicians found that the doctors with the highest 5% of homocysteine in their blood had a three-fold plus increase in the risk of developing heart disease! (JAMA, vol. 268, pp. 877- 881).

Here's what health expert Dr Gary Null has to say about homocysteine and why you need vitamin B6...

"Kilmer McCully has noticed that B6 deficiency leads to a build-up of the substance homocysteine, which may increase plaque formation. Weakened blood vessels due to high blood pressure may be the cause, or may lead to the build-up of LDLs at weak points. Excessive sugar in the diet and its influence on blood triglyceride levels is another possibility. Milk contains xanthine oxidase. Could this enzyme trigger plaque formation? Hormone contraceptive use also alters blood fat levels, and has been shown to increase women's risk of heart and artery disease."

And natural health author Mark Stengler talks about vitamin B12 and homocysteine...

"B12 is one of the critical nutrients to lower homocysteine, a substance that increases the risk of heart disease. Drugs known to deplete B2 stores in the body include birth-control pills, stomach acid blockers, antibiotics, and some seizure medications. A deficiency of B12 will result in anemia. In addition, the nervous system is quite dependent on adequate levels of B12. Memory loss is a symptom, especially in the elderly."

And finally, from well-known and esteemed author and natural heath expert Patrick Quillin...

"There is a huge body of data now pointing to B-12 and folacin (folic acid) as primary nutrients that can interrupt the production of homocysteine, which is a major risk factor in heart disease. Without adequate folic acid in the body, there is a build-up of homocysteine in the blood, which probably generates 10% or more of the 1 million cases of heart disease each year in the U.S."

Your body needs a certain amount of homocysteine, but too much and it becomes dangerous. The good thing about this problem is it’s easy to fix. All you have to do is make sure you take in enough vitamin B6, B12 and folic acid. These three key vitamins help to process and convert homocysteine into the “harmless” amino acids, cystathione and methionine, along with excreting any excess so that the body maintains normal, healthy levels.

In addition, the brown seaweed known as Ecklonia Cava has also been found to regulate nitric oxide levels and is especially recommended for people at risk of, or who suffer from, atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and type II diabetes.
