Coconut Water for Treating Cataracts. Does it Work?

QUESTION:

I'm in my 70s and I have cataracts. I don't want to undergo surgery to remove them. I've read many articles that indicate using extra virgin organic coconut oil or preferably coconut water, as eye drops, to ultimately remove cataracts. What do you think? Safe? Potentially effective? Thanks in advance for your response.

ANSWER:

Hello, and thank you for your question regarding using coconut oil or water for treating cataracts.

Firstly, from all reports, this method seems to work, although we have not seen it first hand. Using extra virgin coconut oil (must be organic) or fresh coconut water makes sense as cataracts are primarily caused by oxidation, and coconut oil and coconut water both contain powerful pro-oxidants (antioxidants).

The only problem I see (pardon the pun) with the oil is putting it in the eyes will make your eyesight blurry, although if you have cataracts your eyesight is probably already blurry anyway. Doing this before bedtime would be the most logical.

With the coconut water, you should only ever use FRESH coconut water from a young coconut, so you would need to have access to these. Water from an unopened coconut is free from bacteria and pathogens. To apply, use an eye dropper and place several drops in each eye twice daily. For the oil, smear enough in each eye to sufficiently cover the lens.

Hope this helps.

Good luck and all the best!

How long does it usually take before the coconut water is effective for cataracts?

Not sure Stan. We haven't heard from anyone who's used this remedy for treating cataracts. However, you would definitely expect to see good improvement within the first 4-6 weeks. Coconut oil expert Dr Bruce Fife is a strong advocate of using coconut water for treating and curing cataracts (this guy definitely knows what he's talking about when it comes to the healing power of coconuts!) This article is very interesting and worth reading... Coconut water for health and healing.

Works for floaters
by: Famous Jane

I read about coconut water being good for removing cataracts and thought I would try it since I am bothered with horrible floaters.

I tried it last night before bed. A few drops in each eye and a warm cloth over my eyes for ten minutes and went to bed. This morning I was shocked to see the world in a new light! The floaters are about 50% gone. I plan on doing it again tonight. If it never got better than it is now I wouldn't complain, but I am hoping for more improvement. Thanks!

Coconut Water & Cataracts, Floaters
by: Susan

JANE... what kind of coconut water did you use to improve your eye floaters?

I have some fear of using coconut water to improve and/or potentially cure my left eye cataract. Anyone know of any adverse reactions?
Thanks.

As long as you use coconut water from a fresh coconut Susan, there is no harm. Fresh coconut water is 100% safe. Just make sure that the coconuts you buy have been refrigerated for export. I recommend you read Dr Bruce Fife's terrific book, Stop Vision Loss Now, for more information on this remedy... Do I need to buy a new coconut each time?
by: Kim

Do I have to buy a new coconut each time I apply it in both eyes? Or can I store the remaining juice inside the refrigerator and use it again the following day?

You could probably use it for another day or two but that would be it Kim. Coconut water doesn't stay fresh for long. :)

How to keep eye dropper etc sterile
by: Anonymous

If you melt coconut oil (by putting it in a bowl with a larger bowl of hot water underneath, not microwaving), how do you keep the bowls and eye dropper sterile? Oil gets stuck in dropper and won't wash out. I have been told this method is used by many with a variety of eye problems with great results but when I put in my eyes it stings and I'm guessing it's because the equipment isn't sterile? Thanks

Hot water is your best option. If the coconut oil is cool then it will definitely stick. This article also has some handy tips... How to Clean Medicine Dropper Bottles .

Cleaning eye dropper?
by: Anonymous

Thanks a lot. I will be using the eye dropper with melted coconut oil. How will I keep the bowl I melt it in sterile? And in regards to the dropper I will be using it before I go to sleep and won't be able to wash it till the morning. Should I leave it in water soapy water overnight? I'm not keen on using vinegar to clean it as my eyes are unbelievably sensitive to just about everything and I know it will irritate them even if there's a resemblance of vinegar still in the dropper. Can I just soak and wash in warm soapy water? I was using a standalone dropper without the bottle. Should I think about changing to one with a bottle to keep it sterile? Thanks so so much. You're very helpful 😊

The best and easiest way to keep bowls, droppers, etc, sterile is washing/soaking them in warm natural soapy water. This works a treat. Just be sure to use a natural soap. If not, you could buy some saline solution (sodium chloride) and use this. Soaking the dropper in some warm soapy water overnight then rinsing in the morning would be fine. Personally, I prefer the eye droppers that come with/in the bottles. There's less risk of infection/contamination.

Hope this helps.

All the best!

I am using the coconut water for cataracts
by: 4U2C

Well, I have cataracts that have developed, despite my usually healthy eating habits. I just turned 70 years old and actually came across this info looking for a remedy for an irritated eye. For about 5 days, my right eye was a bit bloodshot, itchy, and weeping.

Yesterday, I got some fresh coconut water and filled a clean eyedropper bottle with it. From the first administration of it, my eye felt better, and I could see more clearly.

Whether or not it will clear up my cataracts remains to be seen, but I intend to come back here and let everyone know. So far, I have put the coconut water in my right eye about 8 times in about 12 hours.

When I woke up this morning, my eye was clearer and my vision in that eye was better. (I know because I read a small-print Bible first thing every morning and reading was a lot easier today.)

Am looking forward to reporting back on how the coconut water has affected my cataracts.

Well, a little over a week later I can certainly see the very fine print in the concordance in the back of my Bible quite easily. Seems sight is a lot clearer overall, but time will tell if the cataracts disappear completely.

Eye cup instead of dropper
by: Toni

I heard about using coconut water a few months ago. Yesterday, I finally bought a whole coconut. I can't force my eyes to be open when putting drops in (phobia created by eye doctor putting painful drops in my eyes when I was a child), so this morning I put some coconut water in an eye cup and held it to my eye for several seconds; maybe even a minute.

It's much easier to clean than a dropper, too.

One of my daughters shared your article with me a few minutes ago. Thank you for the article and for the links.

About coconut water

Can I go to a store and buy a good brand of coconut water? Health food store etc?

Yes you can. A good health food store will stock coconut water. I do recommend using fresh coconut water (if you have access to coconuts) however as this will be of more benefit, simply because the water is fresh. :)
