Here’s a fast-acting remedy for belching that works like a charm, along with other home remedies that are guaranteed to stop continuous burping, acid reflux & heartburn problems quickly & effectively…
QUESTION:
Do you guys have any good home remedies to help stop excessive burping (belching) and a build-up of gas in the stomach? Sometimes I feel as bloated as a pregnant goldfish and burp constantly for hours on end! I also suffer from the occasional acid reflux and heartburn. These usually come about when I get those uncontrollable belching bouts. Any help with this problem would be most greatly appreciated.
ANSWER:
Burping or belching is one of the main ways your body gets rid of excessive gas in the stomach. When your gas build up is severe, you get that loud and distinctive “belching” noise (we’ve all made it), along with an awful and embarrassing smelling odor (sulphur burps) in some instances.
The occasional burp or belch is certainly nothing to worry about, however, persistent burping and gas build up in the stomach means there’s an underlying problem that needs to be addressed. In most cases, it’s the result of a gut that’s not working properly. Poor digestion causes an overproduction of gas in the digestive system (gut). This gas needs to get out at some point, and there are only two orifices in the body that it can be released from (I think you can guess which ones they are).
So if you’re suffering from excessive burping or reflux right now, you need a quick fix remedy to settle the stomach and stop that gas build up. If you continually suffer from excessive belching then you need to address and fix the underlying cause so you can put this problem behind you. That’s what these particular home remedies and treatments will do.
Here they are in order of importance…
Home Remedy for Burping #1… Gripe Water: Gripe water for babies is a fantastic fast-acting relief treatment for burping and belching and should definitely be your first “go to” remedy. Gripe water contains two herbal extracts, ginger and fennel (see next two cures), both of which contain potent calmative properties, along with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and citrus bioflavonoid extract, which also help to relax the gastrointestinal muscles and soothe the digestive tract. This powerful combination stops the formation of gas in the stomach almost immediately (it really does work that well). The other great thing about gripe water is it produces no unwanted side effects and is 100% safe for all adults, children, and even young babies.
You can easily buy gripe water online or get it from your local pharmacy or drug store - there’s plenty of brands to choose from. Here’s a few if you’re interested…

How to Stop Excessive Burping Remedy #2… Ginger: Good old ginger contains some of the strongest calmative ingredients of any substance, plant or otherwise, known to man (or woman). Even the pharmaceutical industry has been unable to come up with a drug or synthetic product that comes close to the outstanding benefits ginger provides for the relief of burping/belching, acid reflux, heartburn, upset stomach, bloating and gas problems.
Ginger works exceptionally well for calming the stomach, relieving stomach pain and cramps, and promoting healthy digestion. Place the equivalent of a tablespoon of thin or grated ginger slices in a cup of hot water. Cover and leave to steep for 15-20 minutes. Strain, add a teaspoon of raw organic or manuka honey, along with a squeeze of lemon juice, and slowly sip. Drink this 2 to 3 times throughout the day, particularly before bedtime. You can also take ginger root or
ginger extract capsules for extra benefit and relief.
Home Remedy for Burping and Heartburn #3… Fennel: Fennel is a traditional folk remedy for excessive burping, heartburn, indigestion and bloating. The strong gut calmative properties contained in fennel soothe the stomach and release any gas build up very quickly. Fennel is also another terrific herb for stimulating the digestive juices, which in turn helps to increase the absorption of food and nutrients in the gut.
If you don’t mind the taste of fennel then simply chew on a teaspoon of dry-roasted fennel seeds after each meal to reduce any belching and eliminate gas build up in the intestinal tract. In addition to this, add a teaspoon of crushed fennel seeds to a cup of hot water, leave to steep for 15-20 minutes, then strain. Drink this tea twice daily.
Natural Cure for Belching #4… Fresh Pineapple: If you have low stomach acid production then you’ll suffer constantly from excessive burping and belching. Pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain, which helps your stomach break down food. Eat
two or three small pieces of fresh pineapple (fresh not tinned) 20 minutes before each meal and you’ll definitely notice much less burping and belching, along with better digestion and less bloating. Pineapple is also good for treating acid reflux and heartburn.
How to Stop Excessive Burping Remedy #5… Peppermint or Chamomile Tea: Both peppermint and chamomile help to relax the digestive tract and allow abdominal gas to be released gently out of the body rather than in one large burst. You can buy peppermint or chamomile tea from your local health food store or supermarket. Either place one or two chamomile or peppermint teabags (depending how strong you like it and how much relief you want) in a cup of boiling water. Leave to steep for 15-20 minutes. Remove the teabag(s) and slowly sip. Be sure to drink this tea 2 or 3 times throughout the day for best results.
Home Remedy for Belching #6… Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): Apple cider vinegar helps with any digestive problems, including burping/belching, acid reflux, heartburn, and indigestion. ACV increases stomach acid production and soothes and heals the digestive tract and stomach wall. Once you start healing your gut, your digestion problems will be a thing of the past and your burping and belching will go away and stay away.
While the first 5 remedies above are considered “quick relief” remedies, the apple cider vinegar is a long term (permanent) cure, so must continue to take it indefinitely. The type of apple cider vinegar you use is also crucial. Only ever consume raw organic ACV with the “mother” apple (
such as these). Do not use processed vinegars of any kind. Mix two tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar and one teaspoon of organic honey (for extra benefit and taste) in a glass of warm filtered water and drink down. Drink this concoction twice daily, 10 minutes before a meal. If you find you can’t handle the taste of the liquid ACV (it’s not for everyone), go with the capsules instead. They work like a charm as well!
Natural Remedy for Burping and Acid Reflux #7… Probiotics: Without enough beneficial bacteria residing in your gut, digestive problems such as belching, bloating, reflux, diarrhea, constipation, and excessive (smelly) flatulence will all be common occurrences. Probiotics are one of the key components needed for healthy digestion. Without these crucial little guys, food and nutrients cannot be assimilated properly, which in turn leads to the digestive problems listed above. Once you get your good gut bacteria back up to the levels it should be (which does take a little time), you’ll notice a significant difference in the digestion and absorption of your food along with an abstinence of your unwanted burping and belching problems.
Find yourself a
good quality probiotic supplement to take every day (follow the directions on the container for dosage amounts). The optimal time to take probiotics is straight after a meal so be sure to do this. In addition, start culturing and fermenting your own “probiotic rich” foods and drinks as well. Sauerkraut, natural yogurt, kefir water, miso, kimchi, kombucha and pickles are all incredibly rich in healthy probiotics and will help keep your gut super healthy. How to Cure Excessive Burping Remedy #8… Green Foods (Chlorophyll): Chlorophyll (the green pigment in plants) is a powerful gut deodorizer and cleanser. It promotes healthy digestion by soothing and healing the lining of the stomach, along with promoting the growth of good gut bacteria (chlorophyll is an excellent pre-biotic). Chlorophyll also boosts the immune system quite significantly (70% of your immune system is actually located in your gut). Remember, once you fix your digestive system you'll fix your belching and gas problems.
Find yourself an organic
raw superfood powder to take every day. Either mix a scoop or two in a morning smoothie or consume on its own before food. It works wonders!
