Want to remove that annoying skin tag quickly & safely at home without having to resort to conventional treatments? Here’s 8 of the all-time best natural remedies for skin tags (in order of importance) that give outstanding results…

QUESTION:

Hello. I have multiple skin tags on my body, including two skin tags on my eye lids (the most annoying). Are there any safe natural or home treatments that I can use instead of having them removed surgically or frozen off? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Wendy.

ANSWER:

Skin tags are soft smooth or wrinkled “growths” or flaps of skin that in most cases, are harmless and painless. These funny little growths have a habit of popping up in places on the body where friction or constant movement occurs. The eye lids are the most popular spot, along with the underarms, neck, stomach, breast and groin areas. Age and hereditary do play a role in the development of skin tags, as do hormone related health problems, pregnancy and diabetes.

The most popular conventional treatments for having skin tags removed include surgery, cryotherapy (freezing off), cauterization (burning off), ligation (tying a string around the base to cut off the blood supply), and laser removal. Although you should definitely get your skin tag checked out by a health professional first to make sure it’s nothing sinister, natural treatments work just as well, if not better than conventional options and are non-invasive (and safe). So we definitely recommend you go with these first!

Here’s the top 8 home remedies for quick skin tag removal in order of importance…

Skin Tag Removal Remedy #1… Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): Apple cider vinegar is definitely the king of the skin tag removal brigade. In fact, ACV helps with virtually any skin problem including the removal of seborrhoeic keratosis, warts, pimples, and even freckles. The acetic acid in apple cider vinegar breaks down the cells in the skin tag, effectively choking and killing the growth (not trying to sound dramatic, but this is what happens). This is why you’ll notice your skin tag turning a dark color over the succeeding days or weeks of using this remedy. It’s basically dying a slow death. Eventually, as you continue to apply the ACV daily, the skin tag will fall right off. Eureka!

Dip a cotton ball or cotton swab in some apple cider vinegar and apply this directly to your skin tag. Hold it in place with a band aid or some Elastoplast if need be and leave on for a good hour if possible. Apply the ACV cotton ball to your skin tag(s) 3 times during the day, 2 at minimum - before bed is definitely the most crucial. Leaving the cotton swab on overnight will allow the apple cider vinegar to really get in and do its work while you’re sleeping.

Bear in mind that it may take up to 3 weeks to completely remove your skin tag. Naturally, smaller ones will fall off much quicker than larger ones. You also need to be mindful of where your skin tag is located. If it’s near or on sensitive skin then be careful not to leave the ACV on for too long. For instance, for skin tags located on the eyelids, only leave the apple cider vinegar swab on (hold it in place) for 15-20 minutes. Same goes for those sensitive genitalia areas. Of course, be careful not to get the ACV on or in any sensitive parts. The apple cider vinegar can and usually will sting a little - this is normal. But if it begins to really burn then remove the swab and wash the affected area with warm water.

Natural Remedy to Remove Skin Tags #2… Liquid Iodine (Potassium Iodide): Another simple but very effective home cure for skin tags is liquid iodine. Iodine is similar to apple cider vinegar in that it breaks down the skins cells to remove skin tags quickly. With the liquid iodine, try and find the Lugol’s 5% solution if you can (like these). This is the most effective iodine. Using a Q-tip or cotton bud, carefully apply some iodine directly to your skin tag. Make sure you only apply the iodine to the tag – try not to get any on other skin areas. Leave on permanently (no need to wash off) and repeat this process 3 or more times throughout the day. The iodine can also sting a little, but not as much as the ACV. You should notice your skin tag gone completely within a few weeks at most.

Home Remedy for Skin Tags #3… String Tying Method: Some people (or websites) may try and dissuade you from using
this remedy, but in all honestly, you don’t need to worry. The great thing about this treatment is it works quickly (as well as effectively). In most cases your skin tag will fall off within 24 hours.

First get some pure alcohol or disinfectant and rub a little around the skin tag, particularly at the base. Using a clean piece of cotton thread (sewing thread) or dental floss, tie the string firmly around the base of your skin tag. Leave there for roughly 12 hours, then remove and replace again with fresh string. Tighten firmly again. Continue to do this until the tag falls off. Remember, you’ll need to continuously replace or re-tighten the string as the tag shrinks. You’ll also notice your tag turning a dark color as the blood supply is cut off and it slowly dies. Once again, this is normal. Apply some antiseptic cream to the area if need be once the tag has fallen off.

Natural Treatment for Skin Tag Removal #4… Bloodroot (Black Salve): Black salve works a treat on virtually any type of skin abnormality. In fact, it’s one of the best and safest treatments for removing and healing skin cancers (basal cell carcinoma). Bloodroot effectively starves the blood supply to skin tags and dries them out so they fall off with ease.

Make sure you use a good quality bloodroot paste or bloodroot tincture (such as these) and apply 3 times daily to your skin tag(s). The paste can be applied directly using a clean finger (cover over with a band aid after), or if using the tincture, apply with either a Q-tip or cotton swab.

Skin Tag Removal Remedy #5… Oregano Oil: Essential oil of oregano works well for drying out and removing skin tags. It’s also a good antiseptic and numbing agent, so it helps prevent infection and reduces the sting that you can sometimes experience when using other skin tag remedies.

Combine 2 drops of essential oil of oregano with 4 drops of organic coconut oil and apply this directly to your skin tag. Leave on for as long as possible. Continue to apply the oregano/coconut oil mix to your tag each day (minimum of 3 times per day) and within 7-10 days you should find your skin tag gone.

Natural Remedy to Remove Skin Tags #6… Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree oil is highly acidic, so it’s a perfect home treatment for dissolving skin tags. Another positive benefit of using tea tree oil is it’s a strong antiseptic and healing agent, so it not only helps to dry out skin tags so they fall off quickly, it also helps protect and heal the skin after your tag has gone to the heavens.

Simply dip a Q-tip in some tea tree oil and apply directly to any tags. Continue to do this 3 times each day until the tag(s) dry out and fall off. The only down side to tea tree oil? It has quite a strong odor.

Home Remedy for Skin Tags #7… Castor Oil: The great thing about castor oil is it heals and moisturizes the skin, AND also removes skin tags - so you get the best of both worlds with this treatment. Castor oil is completely safe to use as well, so there’s no need to worry about any adverse effects.

Either apply some organic cold pressed castor oil (don’t use the cheap stuff) directly to your skin tags with a Q-tip, or mix up a small batch of castor oil and baking soda (2 to 1 ratio) and apply this to your tags with a Q-tip. Cover with a band aid or Elastoplast to hold the mixture in place over the tag. Repeat and replace the band aid at least twice daily.

Natural Treatment for Skin Tags #8… Nail Polish Remover: This one is what I like to call “a last resort remedy”. Although nail polish remover certainly works for skin tags, it’s not really a natural remedy. However, if this is all you have or if you’ve tried some of the other remedies without success, then nail polish remover is worth giving a go.

Simply paint some nail polish remover on your skin tag, making sure you cover around the base/neck of the tag to choke off the blood supply and harden the tag, then cover with a band aid. Do this 3 or 4 times throughout the day and you should notice your skin tag drying up and showing all the signs of falling off within a few days.

So there you are Wendy. Hopefully these tips and remedies help you out. I’m 100% confident they will.

All the best to you!
