6 Potent Natural Remedies for Pemphigus Vulgaris...

by Diane
(WV)

QUESTION:

Do you have any useful home remedies for pemphigus vulgaris, a skin blistering disease of the skin and mouth?

ANSWER:

Hello Diane, and thanks for your question regarding natural remedies for treating pemphigus vulgaris (PV).

For those who don't know, pemphigus vulgaris is a rare auto-immune disease that causes severe blistering of the skin and mucous membrane lining of the mouth, nose, throat and genitals. These blisters have thin roofs and break easily, leaving raw areas (erosions) that can be large and extremely painful. Thankfully, you can successfully treat, and possibly even cure this awful health condition using natural remedies.

Here's 6 of the best available...

Home Remedy for Pemphigus Vulgaris #1... Borax: This is the most powerful. Borax contains the trace mineral boron, and a boron deficiency is one of the root causes of all auto-immune diseases. If you regularly suffer from candida (yeast infections) then this is another big reason why you definitely should consider the borax remedy. Take the time to read this article in full... The Borax Conspiracy, paying particular attention to the "Fungi and Fluoride" section. If you suffer from any of the health conditions listed in this article (along with pemphigus vulgaris of course) then this is even more reason to follow this outstanding protocol. And yes, you can actually buy high grade (and safe) borax powder. Here's the best one on the market at the moment... All Natural Sodium Borate.

Natural Remedy for Pemphigus Vulgaris #2... Fish Oil and Coconut Oil: Fish oil and coconut oil contain fatty acids which significantly reduce inflammation throughout the body. Coconut oil is also a very potent anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral agent. These powerful benefits make both fish oil and coconut oil supplementation essential for all PV sufferers. Find yourself a good quality (and mercury tested) fish oil supplement and take a total of 9,000 milligrams per day (yes that much) in divided doses. Also purchase a tub of organic virgin coconut oil and take 4-6 tablespoons per day in divided doses. You can also rub some coconut oil on the affected areas/lesions to help speed up recovery and healing.

Natural Treatment for Pemphigus Vulgaris #3... Vitamin D: One of vitamin D's main benefits is it regulates your body’s ability to fight infection, including chronic
inflammation and autoimmune disorders. You need a minimum of 5,000 IU (international units) of vitamin D per day according to world-renowned vitamin D expert, Dr Cedric Garland. So be sure to get yourself 30 minutes of uninterrupted sun exposure every day (especially on the hands and face), along with taking a good quality vitamin D3 supplement. Remember, 5,000 IU a day is the minimum!

Natural Cure for Pemphigus Vulgaris #4... Vitamin C: Vitamin C is essential for building up the immune system. And contrary to popular belief, having a strong immune system is actually crucial for the successful treatment of autoimmune diseases. Vitamin C helps to rebalance the immune system and restore its natural function. Supporting the general function of the immune system helps to reduce the body's disease response and relieve autoimmune disorders. You can buy vitamin C supplements from just about anywhere. Take around 2,000 mg's a day for best results.

Home Remedy for Pemphigus Vulgaris #5... Aloe Vera: Aloe vera gel or oil is excellent for healing the lesions caused from PV. It's also very soothing and relieving on the skin. Find yourself a 100% natural aloe vera gel or oil and gently apply twice daily. Remember though, always test on a small area first just be sure your body doesn't have a reaction to it.

Natural Remedy for Pemphigus Vulgaris #6... Eat Healthy: This one speaks for itself. Eating refined and processed foods and junk food will do absolutely nothing to help your pemphigus vulgaris. They will, however, increase inflammation and make your condition much worse! So be sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and seeds every day and drink plenty of clean, filtered water. Probiotics (healthy gut bacteria) are also crucial for reversing autoimmune diseases so make sure you take a good quality probiotic supplement and start culturing your own "probiotic rich" foods such as sauerkraut, kefir, yogurt and kombucha.

In addition, try and do some light, moderate exercise for 30-40 minutes a day, 4-6 times a week to further build and enhance the immune system. Your body will definitely thank you for it!

So I hope these tips and remedies help you Diane.

Good luck and all the best to you,

Regards,

Troy (Certified Holistic Nutritionist & Herbalist, Health & Wellness Coach, Sports Nutritionist)

Pemphigus Vulgaris Treatment
by: Sue Bishop

Hi Troy,
Are you aware that before the use of prednisolone and other immunosuppressants between 75% and 90% of people with pv died within a year?
I believe that there is a place for supplements and other alternative health care for pv sufferers, but your advice is dangerous. We would all prefer a natural and safe treatment to the drugs we are offered. The sad fact is that, without them, most of us would have died or be horribly ill.
Anyone relying solely on treatments like the ones you suggest is in danger of becoming very seriously ill and will then end up having more radical treatment and possibly failing to recover.
If you still feel that your proposed treatments could result in a cure, please publish the evidence. I am sure that if it is convincing, we will all stop taking drugs and our dermatologists will cheer!
If not, please do not offer false hope to people who are suffering too much already.

Hi Sue, and thanks for your thoughts. A healthy scepticism with any remedy or treatment is a good thing.

Firstly, in the article I never said that you should throw away your medication, quit cold turkey, and start using these remedies instead. All of these remedies can be safely used in conjunction with pharmaceutical medications. We also say to people and reiterate in many of our articles (and on our "about us" page and disclaimer policy page) that you should ALWAYS work in conjunction with a naturopath or health care expert when it comes to using or considering any natural remedies or in regards to any health problem.

The remedies listed above were taken from and compiled from this article on autoimmune diseases and proposed remedies... Natural Cures for Autoimmune Diseases - EarthClinic.com.

Hope this helps to clarify your concerns Sue.

All the best to you.

More about treatment for pemphigus vulgaris
by: Sue Bishop

Thank you for your reply, Troy. You did claim that these treatments could possibly cure PV. If you know of anyone who has been cured in this way, I and other PV sufferers would genuinely like to know.
Your suggestion of 30 minutes in the sun is worrying. PV can cause thinning of the skin; treatments for PV can cause thinning of the skin. We are at increased risk of skin cancer and are generally advised to stay out of the sun and to use a high factor sunscreen.
Having said all of this, I appreciate your openness in showing my post and in replying. If you want to develop a truly holistic approach to treating PV, and I assure you, there are many of us who would really appreciate more work on this, I suggest you get in touch with the International Pemphigus and Pemphigoid Foundation.

Hi Sue. Firstly, I will certainly look into the International Pemphigus and Pemphigoid Foundation. Now with the sun exposure and vitamin D, yes you are right and it should have read low heat sun exposure. So basically medium level uv rays not "middle of summer" rays. That's why vitamin D supplements are still the best and safest option. I would caution using high factor commercial sunscreens though. These products are full of toxic chemicals that are absorbed directly through the pores of the skin into the bloodstream, poisoning the blood. A natural sunscreen would be a much better alternative.

As far as someone possibly being cured using these remedies, the theory (and yes it's still a theory and hasn't been proven) is that with all autoimmune diseases and inflammation within the body (auto-immune diseases are classed as inflammation induced disorders) building up the immune system and detoxifying the body is paramount. Even Dr Joseph Mercola and Dr David Marquis agree with this theory... Inflammation Triggers and Diseases. And that's what these 6 tips and remedies are designed to help with. Anyone with pemphigus vulgaris can also safely use these in conjunction with whatever conventional treatments they are currently using. If their symptoms didn't (at the very least) significantly improve I would be very surprised.

All the best to you Sue!

Are Fluoroquinolone Drugs Associated With PV?
by: SC

I'm wondering if there's a connection between the administration of fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics (Cipro, Levoquine, etc) and the incidence of Pemphigus vulgaris? Pemphigus seems similar to Stevens-Johnson's syndrome in expression. Stevens-Johnson's syndrome occurs in some people after taking these antibiotics.
I have a friend whose immune system was weak after she was recovering from Lymphoma. Her Dr gave her Cipro. Within 2 weeks she started developing Pemphigus. It covered her body, and although it's abated somewhat, it's now in her lungs. She is struggling to breathe even though her O2 level is good.

Fluoroquinolone Drugs are incredibly bad and should not even be available in my opinion. The harmful side effects and the damage they do to the human body are shocking. Back in 2013, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a strong warning that fluoroquinolone antibiotics can cause permanent peripheral neuropathy. They also lower the body's immune system (obliterate it really) and cause oxidative injury and cellular death, which would be the likely reason why your friend developed PV after taking Cipro. Low immunity and immunity malfunction are the main factors associated with Pemphigus vulgaris.

This article on the dangers of fluoroquinolone antibiotics by Dr Joseph Mercola is definitely worth the read... Bitter Pill: The Dangerous Side Effects of Fluoridated Antibiotics.

I agree totally with Sue, being diagnosed with PV myself. I do follow all of your suggestions. I do not ingest the amount of coconut oil you suggest as it is high in calories - 200 per tablespoon. I continue to research in the hopes of finding more good information.

Borax helped me - almost immediate improvement
by: Anonymous

Tried borax for the first time last night after reading this in my desperate state & constant pain from pemphlighoids in my throat, mouth and lungs. I've had SLE for 26 years & am having IvIg three days a month due to pemphligiods. My overall health is slowly improving but not the pain in my throat. So I decided to make a mouth wash and gargle the borax. The relief was almost instant! OMG I thought! I then made up a mix in a litre of water and then diluted somewhat and drank it. Had strange tummy rumblings for a while but that settled quite well. Fell asleep on the couch and slept 6 hours straight. I thought that was amazing as I've not had such unbroken sleep in years! Best of all I woke up pain free and was able to swallow without pain for the first time in 5 years. Thank You! I shall definitely continue with the Borax.

Borax Conspiracy Question
by: Esteban

Hello Troy, I am currently fighting Pemphigus Vulgaris and am using your recommendations. According to the Borax Conspiracy, they recommend taking half a teaspoon of powder with food, but I am mixing half a teaspoon into a liter of filtered water and drink it while eating food about 3 to 4 times a day. Will it work the same if I mix the powder in the food?

What you are doing is perfect and the right way. Borax must be diluted with water and drunk, not added directly to food. It would taste horrible anyway. :)

Cat with pemphigus
by: Anonymous

Borax dehydrates ants so start with a little (how much?) and drink a lot of water.
I'm pretty sure my cat has pemphigus foliaceus. I've been using everything mentioned, except borax, plus a little bit of kefir to drink and topically. His ear blisters up, then starts crusting. Coconut oil plus colloidal silver and ACV helps soften & soothe, then that layer sloughs off and starts all over again.
Have to figure out how to strengthen his immune system or turn autoimmunity off. We haven't started immunosupressants and the rest yet.

Don't give your cat borax. ACV, colloidal silver and coconut oil are all okay. To build up his immune system, the best way is with lots of probiotics. Give him a probiotic supplement mixed in his food if you can (along with the kefir). Bob's Best Coral Calcium Supreme is also very good for building up a cats immunity. It can be mixed in their food (with raw mince works especially well) and they will usually eat it without turning their nose up at it. :)

Bay Area Recommendations
by: Felix

Hello Troy,
I have been very recently diagnosed with PV and I am presently taking Prednisone to get the 'acute' phase under control. My Dermatologist wants me to move to Cellcept as the longer-term choice of drug to manage this condition.
I am highly motivated to be on the lowest possible dosage of any long-term medication. To this end I am keen to work with a practitioner who can guide me safely with the approach you have outlined in the previous strands.
My question is: where can I find a list of suitable individuals who can help me with this in the SF Bay Area (preferably on the Peninsula)?
Thank you and regards,

Works well!
by: Anonymous

I agree. Using both natural and pharmaceuticals together is working well for me. I relied on pharmaceuticals totally before reading more about my condition. I have helped myself more using natural remedies than anything else, most importantly by changing my diet. I am not cured of my immune diseases, but I am functioning normally and keeping all symptoms at bay. The pharmaceuticals are great for flare ups and alleviating the symptoms, but everything else I'm doing is the reason I'm able to move forward in life. Any sceptics need to understand that doctors know far less about curing. They told me to just take tablets for the rest of my life. I saw a naturopath and studied myself. Unbelievable the change in my health since. I've done everything you've listed here and more. I've found that hemp seeds and protein is also a great addition.

Multivitamins

Hi Troy, can we start doing your suggestions if suspected of pemphigus foliaceus as I am still waiting for a doctor's appointment? How about taking a multivitamin that is high in vitamin C, D, protein and others? And also probiotics and fish oil as you recommend. I am concerned with using steroids so I hope to go all natural instead of suffering from steroid use in future. I really hope this is possible.

Time to try something different...
by: Kayleen

Hi Troy, your article gives me hope. My son was diagnosed 4 years ago with IgA/IgG Pemphigus. He has been on many different combinations of medicines and various treatments. One constant drug since the beginning... Prednisone. The Dr's are always trying new concepts, but after a while, it just seems hopeless for my son. He get's frustrated and feels that after all this time, he's just a lab rat for their experiments. His Pemphigus, when first diagnosed had completely covered his scalp and groin area. It took 8 weeks, 4 different biopsies and Children's Hospital Colorado Dermatology to diagnose him. The scalp has remained calm but the groin area is a different story. I'm definitely going to get him some vitamins. He's been eating healthier, working out and has lost over 30 lbs since he graduated HS this last May. To top this off, he started having Epilepsy seizures about 6 months ago and is on seizure medicine for that too. If there are any recommendations on vitamin levels to start out... or any general info, I'd like to hear them.
Thank You,
Kayleen

Can magnesium supplementation reduce seizures in people with epilepsy?. Vitamin D and boron (from borax) are also crucial for healthy nerve functioning and can also help treat seizures. Eating a high alkaline diet is also very important. Try to get your son to eat primarily alkaline foods rather than acidic foods. This handy article and chart list the best and worst foods... Just diagnosed

I just received my diagnosis a few hours ago after suffering for nearly a year with painful sores in my mouth and throat. However, after 10 months of going from doctor to doctor, I got a very painful rash, which led me to a dermatologist, who finally cracked the case. She is suggesting an IV treatment that she has been hearing great reports and results from. I am terrified and exhausted! Will do my best to follow all of the helpful tips you all have shared. I am very happy for those of you who have began to feel relief. I hope and pray to be one of those soon.

Pemphigus is curable!
by: Clare

Hi, 20 years ago I was diagnosed with severe pemphigus vulgaris. I first had very high doses of steroids, then oral cyclophosphamide and then Cellcept over the course of about 15 months. Cellcept was the drug that gave me the most relief. I was so ill that I was hospitalised for about three of those months. The care I received was fantastic. I also, upon my discharge from hospital, left no stone unturned on the alternative route (except for herbs, as they can be quite powerful and interact with medications). Homeopathy, autogenic therapy (A type of self-hypnosis), heavy metal detox, flower essences, spiritual healing, vitamins, etc, etc. I don't know to what extent they helped if any but I have been pemphigus free with not one single symptom for almost 18 years. It is a horrible disease and took two years out of my life, but it did leave my body and never came back. I contacted other people on the list of members of the Pemphigus support group (no internet then) and one of them had no symptoms. So take heart if you are suffering at present as there are people who have been cured. In my darkest days, lying in the hospital ward, wrapped in bandages, I kept this hope alive because I had read the story of a man in the US who had been cured and was competing in Iron Man events. I kept his image in my head and thought if one human being on this planet has kicked this disease then it shows that it is curable. We are all different but perhaps my story can give people hope.

Hi, and thank you for the information. I started using the coconut oil last night and already the very painful blister in my mouth has reduced in size. I gargled with the oil and the pain in my throat has also reduced. I am already under a dermatologist for this condition but I do not want to take steroids. I will certainly up my Vitamin D and I now know that I should also be taking Vitamin K to help absorb the Vitamin D. Is this correct and what dose of Vitamin K would you recommend?

Yes this is true. The best way to get your vitamin D and vitamin K at the correct dosage/synergistic amount is to purchase the liquid drops... Vitamin D3 with K2 Liquid Drops. Pemphigus Vulgaris

Hi Troy, my wife was just diagnosed with Pemphigus Vulgaris and I was reading the blog about Dr Laura Figoski. Do you recommend someone in Los Angeles? Also, she is considering the Borax. Should she gargle and drink it? Can you use both ACV & Borax at different times throughout the day?

Hi Scott. I do know of one excellent holistic doctor in California, Dr Leigh Erin Connealy. In fact, I just did an interview with this lady this morning. Her clinic is one of the best in the world, but she's out in Irvine, Orange County. Here's her website if you're interested... Center for New Medicine.

In regards to the borax and ACV, taking both of these together (but at different times of the day) is perfectly fine. And yes, you can drink AND gargle the borax. Just make sure that what you gargle you spit back out, do not swallow as it will have toxins in it from inside the mouth. Measure out a separate dose of the borax to drink after doing this. Make sure you read the Borax conspiracy article in full before you (or in this case, your wife) does anything. This is crucial... The Borax Conspiracy.

Hope this helps.

All the best to you and your wife Scott! :)

Thank you for all the info on these natural remedies for PV
by: Anonymous

Diagnosed with PV in december 2016, I lost 15 pounds in 3 weeks due to extreme blisters in my mouth and throat. I started on 60 mg of pred and after 8 months dropped to 5 mg. I am still on CellCept. After a few months of improvement I got worse again about 6 weeks ago. The doctors recommend the Rutaximab IV which terrifies me due to it causing a severe decline in immunity. Thank you for all the information listed here. I just bought the Borax and shall try to use it in addition to the other recommendations. I am wishing all of you a speedy recovery from this awful immune disorder. And please, if any of you have other suggestions and natural remedies, please advise. Also, I started again on a restricted diet based only on organic chicken soup, rice and yams. I cannot eat any fresh fruits/ vegetables or any acidic food because I get mouth blisters within minutes of consuming those food items. The only vegetable I can eat is celery.
Thank you!

PV on my gums
by: Ron

Hi to all. I have P.V. only on my lower gums where I have teeth left (10 in all). I am a 79 year old male looking for further help. I have had PV for about 8 years now. When I have a bad outbreak or get very sore on my outer gums I use clove oil directly on my gums on both sides of my teeth. Now mind you, it hurts like HELL for about 5 minutes, but it does give me relief. Its like the oil drives the PV back and I have 4 to 6 weeks of relief before it comes back again. Dang, I am quite relieved that I don't have it any where else. Hope someone finds this helpful. Ron

Pnp pemphigus
by: Gregorious

Hi. This is a great site with a lot of interesting ideas and helpful information. I was diagnosed with pnp pemphigus as a result of a viral tongue cancer. The pemphigus symptoms appeared in early 2019. I saw two dentists and two oral surgeons who had no clue why I had sores in my mouth. A biopsy of the gums was taken in October 2019. It was determined pnp pemphigus. One month of radiation and chemo started in December to treat the cancer which I am happy to report I am cancer free!

I have been on monthly ivig antibody infusions for 4 months and multiple infusions of Retuxan, all of which have helped. I had a recent flare up though as the dermatologist stopped treatments hoping my immune system had calmed down. Not the case yet and I've had multiple blisters and sores reappear. Back on ivig and retuxan. Its been a difficult two years and I'm still on a feeding tube because of inflammation and swelling of the esophagus caused by pemphigus. I can swallow but not past the narrowed esophagus. I will swallow again and my immune system will stop attacking my skin!

I will try the lysine and borax. Does anyone have recommendations for treating the skin to reduce slothing? It is quite frustrating. I apply a vinegar compress twice a day to clean my neck. I use Creve & Aquaphor but the slothing continues.

I hope this post helps someone.

Hang in there!

Canine pemphigus? What have I missed?
by: Karen

My dog was diagnosed with ringworm at the beginning of the year. I used silver gel on her sores and after a couple months, they started to heal. She lost all her hair and was also anemic. Then they started to appear again and attacked her face. She found it hard to breath through her nose and her jowls were rock hard. Her hair is returning slowly. She still has sores and her face looks like she was burned. Her jowls were eaten away so she always looks like she's growling. I brought her to an emergency vet to maybe put her down and he told me not to because everything else was good and that she looked like she has lupus not ringworm and it was the worst case he's seen on her face. I couldn't afford the biopsy so I put her on homeopathic skin, liver, kidney drainers, pre biotics, pro biotics, dog greens, canine muscle supplement, vitamin B and C, mushroom, supplement, colostrum, I feed her organic liver and can food (Chicken Soup for the Soul), ground turkey and other stuff. I've given her mms, silver, coconut oil, CBD salve and internally and her face is still bad. I bought an ITeracare and give her the structured water. What have I missed?

Hi Karen. To be honest, I'm not sure. You seem to be doing everything for her. The only recommendation I can make is look at adding some organic wheat grass powder to her food. This "complete" food contains the full spectrum of nutrients combined with powerful antioxidants. We have used this successfully in the past with a sick old dog, helping her to recover and live 2 1/2 years longer than was expected.

Hope this helps.

Good luck and all the best to you. :)

Pemphigus vulgaris
by: Anonymous

My daughter of 20 years is suffering from pemphigus vulgaris, properly diagnosed 5 months before. Now she is under treatment taking steroids and antibiotics and her situation is only a bit improved. Major issue is her vaginal sores that are not getting better, even with injections of antibiotics. If somebody has experience with this condition please kindly share how it can be improved. I would be greatly obliged.

Thank you and question?
by: Esteban

Hey Troy, I am Esteban. I followed your recommendations for Pemphigus Vulgaris and it took me more than four years to overcome that illness. Since then I’ve been without any problems, so I figured it ain’t coming back! You can use my case as an example that your recommendations work, if anyone asks for proof.

Now changing the subject, my son has coronary artery disease, multi vessel, he is undergoing treatment and is going to have open heart surgery. I would love to know what you recommend to make the best possible outcome or maybe to avoid the surgery all together. He is recovering from two broken arms so he has a few months before the open heart surgery.

Hi Esteban. Good to know that your Pemphigus Vulgaris is under control. Excellent news. Now in regards to your son's coronary artery disease, I am of course not a medical doctor so I can't advise on his condition or what he should do. However, there are definitely certain nutrients, herbs and dietary foods that can help. I recommend you have a read through a Q&A I did on natural remedies for cardiac arrhythmia. The foods and nutrients you need for this condition are EXACTLY the same as what you need for heart health. Here's the link... 5 Powerful Natural Remedies for Cardiac Arrhythmia.

Hope this helps your son.

Good luck and all the best to you! 😊

Glad I found this page

Hi Troy,

My 50ish year old cousin is showing PV symptoms. His mom had PV in her 50's and was cured after getting treatment at the Mayo clinic. But that was so long ago and we all forgot what the treatment was :). The Mayo clinic doctor told my aunt to take niacinamide (I think, need to double check with her) for life. Thanks for all these natural remedies, I will definitely share them with my cousin. Do you know of any ACV that comes in glass bottle? Thanks!

Hi Teresa. As far as liquid ACV goes, Bragg's is still one of the best, however, as long as what you buy is organic and contains the "mother" apple, you can't go wrong... ACV Liquid. 😊
