Want to be able to control your stress & anger naturally without having to resort to anger management counselling or harmful pharmaceutical medications? Then here's 5 "must use" tips & home remedies you definitely should consider...

QUESTION:

Hi. I'm wondering if there are any vitamins or herbal remedies out there that can help control my anger & irritability issues. I've been down the counselling road (still going actually), & although it's helped a bit with the psychological aspect, I need more.
Can you help or offer any advice?
Thanks
Brian

ANSWER:

Anger, irritability, anxiety, stress, rage - these are all common words used in society today. It's a fact that we live in a much more stressful & high pressure world than what our grandparents did. There's definitely a much higher expectation, particularly among men, to perform well - and not just to perform well I might add, to excel. This of course can create many of the negative emotions listed above.

But contrary to popular belief, our lifestyle is not the main cause of these emotions & the negative effects they create. The main cause (root cause) is actually environmental factors, namely, nutritional deficiencies & toxin/chemical build ups in the brain & liver. When these problems are dealt with & fixed, the human body (particularly the brain) becomes more relaxed, clear & better able to deal with the pressures of daily life. A natural flow begins to take place.

So here's 5 of the best way's to rectify those nutritional deficiencies & clear the toxins & chemicals from the brain & liver...

Natural Remedy for Anger & Irritability #1... B Vitamins: B group vitamin supplementation is one of the most powerful treatments for irritability & anger control issues (pellagra). A deficiency of these nutrients has been repeatedly linked to stress, irritability & even violent/psychotic behavior. In the August 2006 issue of "Biological Psychiatry" they published the results of a study confirming that B group vitamins are directly associated with the normalization of homocysteine levels in the body. They found that when there's a deficiency of B vitamins, homocysteine levels rise. This increase produces irritability & anger attacks, particularly in patients who suffer from depression & anxiety. Thankfully, taking a B group vitamin supplement lowers homocysteine levels & returns them to normal. (1)

So to fix your anger & irritability problems, the first thing you must do is start taking a high potency B group vitamin supplement (like this one). Niacin (B3) is particularly important because it produces natural "feel good" chemicals in the brain (it's hard to be angry when you're feeling happy) so definitely make sure you're getting enough of this crucial nutrient. The recommended daily amount of niacin for treating anger issues (according to niacin expert, Dr Abram Hoffer) is 3000 mg's a day so you'll need to take extra. Be sure to purchase a "flush free" niacin supplement as this nutrient can cause redness of the skin when you first begin using it.

You can read more about the awesome power of niacin for controlling anger & irritability problems in this terrific article... Dr Andrew Saul on Niacin & Irrational Anger (Pellagra).

Home Remedy for Anger & Irritability #2... Minerals: Minerals are crucial to the normal functioning of the human brain. They are the "sparks" that initiate & control your thoughts & emotions - including your moods. When you find yourself feeling agitated, uptight or angry for long periods of time, or you tend to lash out for no apparent reason, these are clear signs that your brain chemistry is out of whack. Because minerals (along with B vitamins) control all of this, it's essential that you get your levels back up to par ASAP.

Magnesium is a potent relaxer & one of the most important minerals for your brain (& body), so be sure to supplement with this essential nutrient every day. Look for a magnesium supplement called Natural Calm. It's one of the best magnesium supplements on the market & does exactly as its name suggests - it keeps you calm, relaxed & in control!

Unsulphured black strap molasses (BSM) is high in essential minerals & vitamins (especially B vitamins, A, C & E), so take a tablespoon of this nutritionally packed wonder food every day upon rising.

In addition to these, start salting your food (& cooking) to taste with Himalayan pink rock salt. Pink crystal salt contains over 80 essential minerals & trace elements in a highly absorbable form. Even Dr Joseph Mercola recommends everyone salt their food to taste with this amazing mineral salt. And no,
it wont raise your blood pressure - it will actually lower it. You can buy Himalayan pink crystal salt from your local supermarket. It's cheap & extremely good for you!

Natural Treatment for Anger & Anxiety #3... Liver Detox: According to traditional Chinese & Ayurvedic medicine - anxiety, anger, frustration & irritability problems all stem from a toxic & poor functioning liver - or what many like to call an "angry liver". The National Institutes of Health agrees with this & says there is in fact numerous examples of this based on Chinese research.

Because the liver is the main filtering organ, it cops the full brunt of toxins & chemicals when they enter the body. So giving your liver a good detox and cleanse is paramount. Make sure you drink plenty of lemon water (clean filtered water with a slice of lemon added) throughout the day to help cleanse & flush your liver. Herbs & spices such as garlic, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon (Ceylon cinnamon), milk thistle, dandelion, artichoke, chicory root, yellow dock & burdock root are all powerful liver cleansers & detoxifiers. Get yourself a good liver cleanse formula, along with using the first four herbs & spices listed above in your cooking as much as possible. You can also add a teaspoon or more of each (probably not the garlic though) to a morning smoothie every day for extra benefit.

If you need inspiration, here's a powerful liver detox smoothie that you can easily make...

Ingredients:

1 apple, peeled and cored
1 beet, cut
1 large carrot
1 cup of dark leafy greens (dandelion, spinach, kale, etc.)
½ lemon peeled minus the seeds
1 cup purple cabbage
1 cup fresh mint
1 inch chunk of peeled ginger or 1 teaspoon of ginger powder
1-2 teaspoons of fresh tumeric (or powder)
1-2 teaspoons of Ceylon cinnamon (do not use cassia cinnamon)
2 TBSP coconut oil
Filtered water
1 cup of ice
Blender

Instructions:

Add all ingredients to blender
Fill up to ¾ of blender with water & add some ice
Blend & drink immediately to take advantage of the live enzymes, antioxidants & nutrients
Place what's leftover in the fridge & re-blend throughout the day. This should keep for up to 2 days in the fridge.

Natural Remedy for Anger & Irritability #4... Diet: This one follows on from the liver detox. There are certain foods that help with your moods & feelings of well-being & there are certain foods that do the opposite. The worst culprits for increasing anxiety, stress, anger & irritability levels are refined sugars & artificial sweeteners (excitotoxins) such as MSG & aspartame. Processed foods (including junk food & processed cows milk) & alcohol contain artificial additives, particularly toxic preservatives, along with flavor enhancers such as MSG & refined sugars - so these are all best kept to a bare minimum. Green leafy vegetables, cruciferous vegetables, beets, carrots, cabbage, apples, avocados & grapefruit, along with the herbs & spices listed above, are all powerful detoxifiers, especially for the liver, so be sure to eat plenty of these every day. Don't forget too, drink lots of filtered lemon/lime water throughout the day to detox that liver (very important).

Home Remedy for Anger & Stress #5... Exercise: Exercise is great for letting off steam & getting rid of any anxiety or anger that may be built up inside. When you do a boxing class or GRIT class, or weight training in the gym, you get to take your frustrations out during these activities rather than venting them on your work colleagues or loved ones. Exercise also releases strong mood stimulating chemicals called endorphins, so you naturally feel better & more uplifted after exercising. This remedy really does work extremely well. I highly recommend you try it!

Thank you for this valuable information. I survived 8 years of C_A torture and suffer ongoing irritability and anger issues. I just started with the B vitamins and will add the 3000 mg of Niacin as well. I use organic coffee enemas to detoxify my liver. I need to find a comprehensive mineral supplement as well. Walking is good, too.
