Want to finally cure your bacterial vaginosis (and cure it for good)? Here's 5 natural remedies and treatments for BV you definitely MUST consider...
QUESTION:
I have had bacterial vaginosis (BV) on and off for months now and it's driving me crazy. I've tried a few different home remedies but none have given me any real relief. Are there any natural remedies or ways to get rid of BV fast (in a day would be awesome) that genuinely work?
Thank you.
ANSWER:
The first thing you should do when it comes to bacterial vaginosis is make sure you actually have this. Yes, this may sound silly but very often bacterial vaginosis gets mistaken for a yeast infection or trichomoniasis (a sexually transmitted disease), as these are all very close and similar in symptoms. Once you have a confirmed diagnosis, here's how you can finally get rid of your BV and get rid of it for good...
Home Remedy for Bacterial Vaginosis #1... Hydrogen Peroxide (HP) Douche: This should definitely be your first "go to" remedy for bacterial vaginosis. Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful disinfectant and cleansing agent that helps to get rid of the bad bacteria in the vagina. HP is also an excellent anti-inflammatory (inflammation is a precursor to bacterial vaginosis) and helps to raise the pH level of the vagina. Once the pH level is raised, the bad bacteria (bacterial vaginosis) are quickly destroyed and the good/healthy bacteria are then free to grow and repopulate.
So to use the hydrogen peroxide effectively, here's what you need to do... First go out and purchase some of the 3% food grade HP (
like this one) and a vaginal douche. Make up a 50/50 solution of HP and distilled water and use this to douche the vagina. Do this several times throughout the day. You can also soak a tampon with the 50/50 solution and insert this into the vagina. The mixture of hydrogen peroxide and distilled water can be varied and made stronger if need be. 50/50 should be your starting solution, however, you can use a 75/25 percent HP/water solution or even use the 3% solution straight if you find the 50/50 mix isn't strong enough.
Natural Remedy for Bacterial Vaginosis #2... Probiotics (Good Bacteria): Acidophilus and other essential probiotics are crucial for keeping the vagina healthy and keeping the bad bacteria (BV) away. When you have a healthy supply of probiotics residing in the body, particularly in the vagina, bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections cannot occur - it's impossible. However, when your levels of good bacteria drop, the bad bacteria quickly take up residence and take over. This "shift" is what causes BV and candida fungus (thrush) to thrive.
So to keep your levels of healthy bacteria up, there's two things you need to do. Firstly, start taking a
good quality probiotic supplement every day. Secondly, begin eating and drinking lots of probiotic rich foods and liquids such as kefir, sauerkraut, kombucha and kimchi. Remember this... probiotics have a high turnover rate, which means they don't live for very long, so you MUST replenish the supply every single day. You can also never overdose on probiotics. In fact, the more
you have the merrier! Here's a handy website on how to easily culture and produce your own probiotic rich foods if you're interested...

In addition to this, you can also take a few capsules of the acidophilus/probiotic supplement and pour them into your douche and use this the same as the HP treatment. Or you can crush up a couple of capsules and insert them directly into the vagina. Even smearing some natural yogurt in and around the vagina works very well.
Natural Treatment for Bacterial Vaginosis #3... Folic Acid: Aside from being an essential nutrient for all women, folic acid is a strong immune booster and infection fighter. It works extremely well when combined with probiotics as both seem to have a synergistic effect on each another. Purchase a good quality
folic acid supplement and take 800-1200 micro grams (mcg) daily with food.
Home Remedy for Bacterial Vaginosis #4... Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): Apple cider vinegar is another terrific remedy for BV as it alkalizes the body and vagina (which is what you want). Even though ACV is acidic, once it enters the body it becomes alkaline. Apple cider vinegar is also a potent disinfectant and contains lots of probiotics and essential nutrients, including folate.
To use the ACV, simply go out and purchase some raw unfiltered organic apple cider vinegar with the "mother" apple (
Bragg ACV is the best). This is the only ACV you should use. Do not use processed vinegar's of any kind as these will actually make your condition worse. Mix 30 ml's (two tablespoons) of apple cider vinegar in a glass of warm filtered water and drink down. You can also add a teaspoon of raw natural honey for taste too if you like. Drink this concoction twice daily, first thing in the morning and lastly at night before retiring to bed. You can also use the ACV as a douche by mixing equal parts of distilled water and apple cider vinegar.
Natural Cure for Bacterial Vaginosis #5... Eat Healthy: What you eat has a massive effect on the health of the whole body, including the vagina. Bad bacteria loves two things... sugar and yeast. They thrive off them! So if you consume lots of these and suffer constantly with bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections, you now know why. So to keep your BV away, all refined sugars, processed foods and yeast containing foods (bread, wine, beer, etc) should be kept out of the diet, or at the very least, severely limited (every now and then is okay, you still have to live!) Instead, eat plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, seeds, nuts and grains. Also drink plenty of clean, filtered lemon water as this helps to raise your body's pH (alkalinity) level. And of course, lots and lots of probiotic rich foods!
So there you go. Hopefully these tips and remedies help you out.
Good luck and all the best to you Josie!
