10 Potent Home Remedies for Bad Breath That Work a Treat!

AWESOME! Here's the top 10 natural and home remedies for bad breath (halitosis) that are guaranteed to get rid of this embarrassing problem in a hurry and for good!

QUESTION:

Hi. I have awful smelling breath that is really disgusting and quite embarrassing. And it doesn't matter how often I brush and floss my teeth either. What are some of the best natural remedies and ways to get rid of this problem?
Thank you.

ANSWER:

Bad breath or halitosis is a very common problem. Chewing on a piece of mint or reaching for some gum are two of the most common remedies of choice, however, these don't address the underlying cause at all.

Although regular flossing and brushing of your teeth and tongue is important - particularly after meals - the root causes of bad breath must be fixed (both internally and in the mouth) if you want this problem to go away completely.

Here's the top 10 ways to do this...

Home Remedy for Bad Breath #1... Drink Lots of Water: Dehydration is actually one of the most common causes of halitosis. The body produces its own bacteria-fighting saliva which then kills the microbes in the mouth that cause bad breath. But it needs plenty of water to be able to make enough off this bacteria destroying saliva!

So make sure you drink AT LEAST 10-12 glasses of clean, fluoride free water throughout the day. Water is also important for cleaning the mouth after eating and removing food particles - so make sure you "swish" some water around in your mouth for at least 30 seconds after each meal as well.

Natural Remedy for Bad Breath #2... Zinc: According to many natural health experts, bad breath is one of the first signs of a severe zinc deficiency. Many mouth washes also contain zinc because it's a powerful anti-microbial and germ killer.

Eat plenty of pumpkin seeds (they're rich in zinc) and take a good quality chelated zinc supplement every day to quickly rid yourself of bad breath.

Natural Cure for Bad Breath #3... Probiotics: Believe it or not, poor gut health is another common cause of bad breath. This is one of those underlying problems associated with bad breath that most people (including doctors) simply aren't aware of.

A study published in the journal "Current Opinion in Gastroenterology" in 2011 revealed that probiotics are able to take over and replace the odor-causing oral microbes in the mouth, effectively destroying bad breath in one fell swoop!

So make sure you start taking a high quality probiotic supplement every day, along with eating and drinking plenty of probiotic rich food and drinks such as sauerkraut, kefir, kombucha, yogurt and miso. Take a look at this handy website for ideas and tips on how to easily make up your own probiotic rich foods... Cultures for Health.

Natural Treatment for Bad Breath #4... Chlorella: Because halitosis can stem from a build-up of heavy metals, toxins and yeast overgrowth in the body, it makes sense to give yourself a regular "detox" to help eliminate bad breath. Chlorella is definitely the best food for this. This remarkable blue-green algae is the ultimate heavy metal and toxin remover, mainly due to its high levels of odor destroying chlorophyll.

You can easily buy broken cell wall chlorella (the best) in tablet or powdered form (here's some
of the top brands on the market if you're interested
). For dosages, simply follow the directions on the container.

Home Remedy for Bad Breath #5... Stinging Nettle: According to Bartram's Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine: The Definitive Guide..."Bad breath is often indicative of toxemia or defective elimination via the liver". The stinging nettle herb is a potent toxin eliminator, liver cleanser and blood purifier. By addressing and repairing these three problems, you fix bad breath at the core. So be sure to drink 2-3 cups of stinging nettle tea each day to effectively keep your halitosis under control.

Natural Remedy for Bad Breath #6... Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): Apple cider vinegar is terrific for raising the alkalinity (pH) level in the body. What's important about this if you regularly suffer from bad breath is that the microbes in the mouth which cause halitosis cannot actually survive in an alkaline environment (they can only survive in an acid environment). So by raising your alkalinity, your bad breath problems will be history in no time!

There are two ways to have the ACV. Firstly, add a tablespoon (30 ml's) to a glass of warm filtered water and drink twice daily on an empty stomach. Secondly, take a teaspoon of ACV and place in the mouth. "Swish" this around in your mouth for one to two minutes, so it mixes well with your saliva, then spit out. Be sure to do this straight after eating a meal for best results.

Note: Make sure the apple cider vinegar you use is organic and still contains the "mother" apple (Bragg apple cider vinegar is the best if you can get it). This is extremely important. Do not use any type of processed vinegar's as these will not work.

Natural Cure for Bad Breath #7... Baking Soda: Baking soda works a treat for bad breath. In fact, you'll even find this ingredient in many tooth pastes nowadays because it works so well for halitosis and gingivitis.

Simply mix one-half teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of warm filtered water and use as a mouth rinse. In addition to this, brush your teeth with a small amount of baking soda to help reduce the acidity in your mouth and stop the halitosis causing bacteria from building up on your tongue.

Natural Treatment for Bad Breath #8.. Parsley: Chewing on some parsley after a meal is an old folk home remedy for bad breath. Parsley contains high amounts of chlorophyll, which helps to neutralise the bacteria that causes bad breath.

Natural Remedy for Bad Breath #9... Cloves: Another old folk home remedy for bad breath, and one grandma probably used, is chewing on a couple of cloves after eating. Simple and highly effective.

Home Remedy for Bad Breath #10... Eat Lots of Carrots, Apples and Celery: Fiberous fruits and vegetables such as carrots, apples and celery are excellent for reducing bad breath problems. They help scrape and clean the teeth, along with removing any pieces of food that may be stuck between the teeth after eating. In addition to this, carrots, apples and celery are all powerful odor eliminators, which of course includes any bad breath odors.

So hopefully these tips and remedies help you out and finally fix your halitosis problem for good!

Good luck and all the best to you.

Hydrogen Peroxide
by: Jesse

My breath used to be so bad that even our dogs breath smelt better! I found that the best remedy for my bad breath was hydrogen peroxide. It works amazing! All I did (and still do) is gargle and swish a small mouthful of the 3% food grade hydrogen peroxide for about 5 minutes every morning and right before going to bed. My girlfriend used to not want to kiss me (couldn't blame her) but now it's smooching galore!

Hope this helps others out there.
